Women in Hamilton are portrayed as lesser than men in Hamilton. While people like Alexander Hamilton were studying in college and contributing to the war, a woman like Angelica will not even think of doing the same because of the strict gender roles at the time. Women were seen as assets to a family, and they were expected to date within their own social class. I like Angelica’s romantic dialogue because it illustrates the problematic nature of how women are portrayed. Angelica decides to let Hamilton marry her sister, despite Angelica being in love with him. However, Angelica is also supposed to marry rich, which is why she lets her younger sister have Hamilton. Ultimately, she did not want to hurt her younger sister, and this was logically the best decision she could make. I guess women are a bit glorified in regard to their marriage standards, but their lack of freedom to participate in the war efforts and help build America is where the injustice is seen the most.
